Welcome! I'm Kai.
/ˈkaɪ/ • they/them • Canarian • London-basedI’m a (digital) Product Designer with an education in Design Engineering and a love for art.
I balance my technical background and my passion for user-centred design to deliver beautiful, inclusive, and scalable solutions.
I work at planet, enhancing experiences for both artists and fans within the live music space. I design for both B2C and B2B, and I work cross-functionally as a bridge between our commercial, product, and engineering teams.
Most of my interests are centered around creativity and psychology. Some of them are: web development, illustration, creative writing, and language learning.
About this website
Rather than simply building a portfolio, I created this site to be my very own corner of the internet. The aim is to share projects, ideas, and thoughts.
But there's a bit more to it...
Lately, my hobbies have been all about achievement. Video game completion stats, Goodreads challenges... Instead of stressing over how many books I read in a year, I want to focus on what I'm taking away from each of them. I hope that by sharing some of my interests here, I'll be able to enjoy them more mindfully. And who knows? Maybe my ramblings will inspire you to try something new.
Learning in public (sort of)
I think of everything on this website as a constant “work in progress”. I'm always updating posts with new knowledge and understanding, so this space grows with me. As a result, you might rarely come across content that seems incomplete. It's not really learning in public, but it's close enough.
This is also an opportunity to improve my web development skills. What you're looking at right now is my first attempt at building a site from scratch. By the way, it would have taken much longer without my wonderful partner Michalis' support and unending patience. Thank you, Michalis!
Colophon
This site is made with Astro and hosted on Netlify. The content is generated from Markdown files, with MDX sprinkled in for extra functionality.
In terms of typography, I chose MS PLUS 2 for headings and Noto Sans for body text. It was important to me that they both had Japanese support, as I hope to write about my language learning journey in the future. I also use Noto Color Emoji. All icons are from Tabler Icons, which is one of the most complete free icon libraries out there.
Unless otherwise specified, illustrations are made by me and may not be used in any commercial or non-commercial projects. Yes, that includes AI training! 🤖
